Everything started in Montevideo. Uruguay was chosen as the first-ever World Cup host in 1930. The reigning Olympic champion at the time claimed glory once again. The final took place at the Estadio Centenario, where Uruguay defeated Argentina 4–2.
2. Brazil 1950, the “Maracanazo”
It was the final match. Over 200,000 fans packed the Maracanã Stadium. Brazil was ready to lift the trophy on home soil, but Uruguay pulled off the impossible, winning 2–1. The result stunned the world and left the entire stadium in absolute silence.
3. Mexico 1970 & 1986, Pelé and Maradona
Mexico has hosted the World Cup twice: in 1970, when Pelé dazzled with his brilliance and won his third world title with Brazil, and in 1986, when the “Hand of God” made the difference against England.
4. Germany 2006, Zidane’s final World Cup
It was a World Cup in which Germany stood out as an impeccable host. The final was played between two giants: France and Italy. In extra time, Zidane lost his composure and was sent off, missing the penalty shootout that led Italy to become world champion.
5. Qatar 2022, where money wrote the story
Qatar, despite being known as a country that violates human rights, was selected due to its strong economic capacity and geopolitical influence. The final between Argentina and France, in which Messi lifted the trophy, has been considered the best in history.

For the first time ever, the World Cup will be hosted jointly by three countries, with a record 48 participating teams.
