MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY IN MONTERREY: WHERE TO CELEBRATE “EL GRITO” AND WHERE TO STAY
September 08 2026
Destinations Travel Tips
September is a fantastic month to discover Mexico. Patriotic celebrations and national pride not only paint the streets in green, white, and red, but they also set the perfect stage to proudly showcase our traditions, gastronomy, and vibrant Mexican spirit.
MONTERREY
Monterrey is a unique city where you’ll always find something to do. Here are three must-see spots, the best place to celebrate El Grito de Independencia, and top hotel recommendations in this northern city.
Things to do in Monterrey: three must-visit spots
Fundidora Park: A public park located on the site of Latin America's first steel company. You can rent a bike to ride along its trails and admire the impressive Horno 3 (Blast Furnace 3), now transformed into an interactive science museum.
Paseo Santa Lucía: A navigable artificial canal stretching over two kilometers. Take a guided boat tour, stroll along its walkways, and admire the murals alongside 24 illuminated fountains.
Chipinque Ecological Park: Located in the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains, it’s ideal for a scenic hike through trails surrounded by pine and oak forests. For a picture-perfect moment, head up to the lookout point to take in a panoramic view of the metropolitan area.
Where to celebrate "El Grito" in Monterrey?
The main gathering spot to celebrate Mexican Independence Day will be the Explanada de los Héroes (located on 5 de Mayo between Zuazua and Zaragoza) at Macroplaza in Monterrey, N.L.
Starting at 6:00 PM on September 15th, you can enjoy the festivities with live performances from various artists, including Grupo Duelo, Joss Favela, the Ballet Folklórico Raíces, and more.
On September 16th, don't miss the Independence Day Parade starting at 10:00 AM at Macroplaza.
