Destinations Travel Tips
Guadalajara is one of Mexico's most iconic and traditional cities. If you’re planning a trip, September is the perfect time to visit: the streets light up in green, white, and red, you can savor authentic national cuisine at great prices, and you'll get to immerse yourself in the festive holiday spirit.

Here are three must-visit spots, the best place to celebrate the "Grito de Independencia," and where to stay to make the most of every moment.

Guadalajara: three must-see landmarks

Beyond sipping authentic tequila and listening to live mariachi, don't miss these top sights:

Historic Center & Guadalajara Cathedral. Stroll through the heart of the city, visit Plaza de Armas, admire the Cathedral's iconic architecture, and stop by the Government Palace to marvel at the murals by José Clemente Orozco.

Hospicio Cabañas. A UNESCO World Heritage colonial building housing one of Mexico’s greatest artistic treasures: the mural "The Man of Fire" by José Clemente Orozco, located inside the main chapel's dome.

San Pedro Tlaquepaque. Just a short distance from downtown, you'll find this vibrant town full of cobblestone streets, art galleries, fine handicrafts, and unforgettable dining options. Wrap up your day at El Parián, a bustling plaza where you can enjoy live mariachi and local tequila.

Where to Celebrate "El Grito" in Guadalajara?

Mexico’s Independence Celebration takes place at Plaza Liberación, located on Hidalgo Street in Downtown Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Cultural and artistic activities kick off at 5:00 PM on September 15th, followed by the traditional "Grito de Independencia" ceremony at 10:00 PM, topped off with a live concert by Grupo Frontera.
